Glossary

Open Edition Prints:

Open edition prints are reprinted according to public demand, whereas limited edition prints are not. The open edition prints offered on this web site are usually printed with museum quality inks and paper. Some open edition prints have been signed, but not numbered, by the artist.

Limited Edition Prints:

Printed with museum quality inks and paper, signed and numbered by the artist, and limited in number to the size of the edition. Most prints are lithographs; they are printed from a flat surface, and therefore lack texture.

Time-Release Edition Prints:

These prints are limited in number in that they can only be produced during a particular length of time. For example, a print may only be produced during the year 2002.

Canvas Prints:

These prints have more of the look and feel of the original painting. They are often produced by the Giclée printing process, where the image is created by spraying millions of extremely small drops of ink onto the paper or canvas.

Artist Proof:

A small number of prints from an edition which have been set aside for the artist to proof. Since they are harder to come by, they are often more valuable to collectors.

Remarque:

A small, usually unique, painting which has either been drawn directly on a print, or included separately.

Framing:

All artworks sold by Cornerstones come double matted and framed.
